The right size

Finding the right frame size takes two steps: measuring your inseam and calculating the frame size from it.

(1) Measure your inseam:
Stand on the floor without shoes and trousers and clamp a suitable object (e.g. a spirit level or a book) between your legs. Push the object up until you feel slight pressure in the crotch area. In this position, measure the distance between the top edge of the object (make sure it is level!) and the floor. This is your inseam.

(2) Work out the right frame size: With your inseam you can now work out the right frame size. Simply multiply your inseam by 0.226/0.26 (mountain bike/road bike) to get the frame size in inches. For a value in centimetres, multiply your inseam by 0.574/0.66 (mountain bike/road bike). Please note that these are "textbook values" and manufacturers do not use a uniform system for stating frame sizes.

Your personal preferences should also be taken into account when choosing the right size. Sporty riders like to go a little smaller, while touring riders tend to pick the next size up if in doubt. If you need help choosing the right size, feel free to contact us personally.
